Why iPhone® X - iPhone® 8 - Samsung® Do NOT Have This?
There are probably 1 billion Apple®, Samsung® & other smartphone users in the world. 90% of these iPhones & other smartphone owners will never know or remember the feel of the actual phone.
iPhone 8 and iPhone X was launched by Apple® at end of 2017 and Samsung® is expected to launch their flagship Galaxy S9 shortly. These are THE most sought after and THE most expensive handheld devices in the world. Apple® expects to record between $49 billion to $52 billion in sales in the September 2017 quarter. This is probably much higher than the GDP of hundreds of countries in the world. Samsung's expected revenue too will be in tens of billions of dollars.
A business person in India was hesitant to own an iPhone, primarily due to its very high price tag and the safety of the expensive device. Shortly after he got the brand new iPhone 7S it was stolen in the busy Mumbai local train.
Someone in United States was taking a picture with his smartphone at a zoo and dropped the phone in the monkey pit. The phone was picked up by the curious monkey who licked all over the slick device and even took a few pictures!!
A sidewalk café waiter in Lisbon, Portugal told me to be careful of the iPhone that I left on the table. He said that the waiters there shove the large menu in front of the customer and with the sleight of hand, neatly slip the phone off of the table.
A huge number of people all over the world, from the “safest” western countries to the “less safe” “third world” countries have lost hundreds of thousands if not millions of hand-held smartphone devices. They are either easily stolen, dropped or just forgotten and misplaced.
The expensive but indeed very much useful devices cannot be taken and used for sports either, even for simple hiking or trekking expeditions, lest they fall off somewhere in the wilderness never to be seen again. In the past century when Nokia launched the new cellular phones, the very first thing they did was design a notch with a heavy-duty lanyard attached to the small device.
This was so sturdy and handy that hardly anybody ever lost their phones. The cell phone thieves had a poor business in those days as they were very difficult to steal.
With Apple®’s initiative, the cell phone thieves’ business has boomed a million-fold. Samsung® followed suit, helping the industry make those extra millions. These companies, with all their wisdom never even considered to design and build a small tiny notch to attach in the device. Probably because these giants have a policy not to accept any recommendations from the public or the users and their own testers did not ever think about it. There have been many times when company testers have forgotten phones in their beta stage, which have fallen into wrong hands that the company obviously frowned upon.
To make matters worse, it appears that rare any accessories manufacturers make any smartphone cover/case that can make the phone physically safer so that it is not stolen, dropped and can be used for most simple sporting activities. Hopefully, someday, maybe iPhone 21X will have a secured attachment.
These electronic giants also make the phone devices slick and without any ridges on the edges for a firm grip. Seems like it is a deliberate attempt to make the devices slippery enough to be dropped and damaged or lost easily.
Until then, the world of lost phones gets bigger and bigger, enough to fill the Grand Canyon!
